Checking in

What did everyone do tonight?  Did anyone exercise?  How about portions?  How is everyone doing with eating more vegetables at night than anything else?  Has anyone found one time in the day more challenging than others?

We need to stay accountable for our activities and our food choices, this is the perfect forum to do it so you can either tweak your activity level and food or to discuss why you are having problems.

Come on everyone!  I'm not going to let you off the hook because you're busy, you can make healthy choices even when you're busy.  We can't quit one week into this, let's stay focused.

I didn't do too well this weekend, but I was back on track by Sunday night and back to my Wii Fit on Monday night. I re-measured my waist, hips, bicep, thigh and chest and found that I had some changes in this short period of time, which is a thrilling feeling. Even though I'm not seeing the weight come off, it's good to know that all of that hula-hooping on the Wii is worth the sweat!

I find that I have the hardest time drinking my water at night. I'm not sure why I have a hard time with it, but I've been trying to at least get 36 ounces at night and I've been hitting around 18 ounces. I need to try harder to stay focused on that.

I'm also finding it hard to not want to have a snack at night. I've been really good about not eating after dinner, but I would love to know if anyone has had any luck with anything late at night that makes them feel full before bed.

This week will be difficult for me to exercise at night, unfortunately I'm very tired, bloated and crampy....lovely, but I'm going to do it! There's no excuses...even though I think this should be one =)

Who's next?

Sorry I haven't been on line the last few days -- the weekend was very busy and then work has been crazy (we have decided it must be a full moon). I have been keeping up with my water and watching how much I have been eating, although I have not started counting calories. Mike is still my biggest problem -- last night he even brought me a Cadbury egg! Tonight he was supposed to be teaching, so I had planned on measuring, getting info on calorie counting, and getting in a good dose of exercise on the Gazelle. But now he has cancelled class, so I need to tell him I need "time to myself" to get these things done. One question -- I had lost 4.5 lbs as reflected by the scale for several days -- then one day I dropped down to 7 lbs -- but then the next day I was back to 4.5 lbs. Any good reason for such drastic changes?

Come on, everyone else -- I need all of you to put me to shame so I keep trying!

4.5 pounds ??? WOW !!! That is great - perhaps Katie might have an idea about the weight difference, as I have no clue. Keep that closet Cubs fan away from you with the treats, but you also get to reward yourself with a treat once in a while too. I started with allowing myself to eat frozen yogurt on Sunday night only. (BTW, frozen yogurt tastes really good nowadays). Keep it up Grandma L - Dancing with the Stars is a great time to exercise cause it has great music and I know you like that show !!

Mom-Congrats on the weight loss! All I know about the weight difference is that I can vary 2-3 pounds per day...not sure if this is a family curse or what, but it's annoying! I haven't lost any weight, but I have stayed the same for a week now, which is HUGE for me. Usually I'll weigh something different each day, but I do always stay in a 'range', so I know I've gained weight or lost weight if it goes above or below that range.

For me to know my range, I always weigh myself before I get in the shower in the morning. This way I know I didn't eat something heavy right before or drank a bunch of water. I weigh myself right before I get in at the same exact time everyday. I never, ever weigh myself at night....that's just depressing! On the weekends since I don't usually shower until later after breakfast, I weigh myself when I wake up. I don't know why I've gotten in the habit of weighing myself everyday, but I'm glad I did because it did give me my range. If I weighed myself every week or every month, I think I would get upset if I worked so hard and found out I gained 3 pounds...only really, it was water weight or hormones.

weight change could be attributed to a number of things, so if you weigh yourself in the morning, you eliminate most of the factors. Water, hormones and food quantity can all make your weight flucuate drastically. Don't get down though, find your range and then you'll know that your hard work is paying off!

I like Aunt Kate's idea about doing your gazelle in front of dancing with the stars, that's a great idea! Heck, do it in your nightgown for 5-10 minutes before sitting down, whatever works. Little bit at a time will go a long way!
